Hodge Podge Time!

I’m not intentionally doing NaNoWriMo or anything, but I know I’ve posted more in the past seven days that I have all of October! Don’t know why. This post will be a batch of stuff totally unconnected in any way. You have been warned.

First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!! Today is my dad’s birthday, and I can’t be remiss in mentioning that. He’s an awesome dad and a great Pop to my kids, so I hope he has a happy day today.

Knowing that this weekend is the last weekend before starting the new job, I’m trying to get stuff done – even stuff that I do every weekend anyway. The last load of laundry is in. I vacuumed the entire house. Denis cleaned the kitchen and took the garbage to the dump. I cleaned up the litter tray for the kitties. I’ve cleaned the half bathroom, Denis did part of of our master bathroom, and I’ll do the other full bathroom in a bit.

I’m in the mood to bake today – something about a nice clean house inspires me to bake. Don’t know why. We’ll see if I actually do it.

I got my haircut today since I’m having my work ID made on Monday morning. I went to a place I haven’t been to before because they were offering a discount, and the stylist did a good job, so I made an appointment to go back the morning of our White Elephant party to have it cut and styled.

Have started listening to some new music in the past couple of weeks. Specifically, Har Mar Superstar (song: Tall Boy) and A Fine Frenzy (song: Blow Away). I discovered them both on late night tv. HMS was on Jimmy Fallon’s show last week. Great music – very much like Scissor Sisters. AFF was on Craig Ferguson’s show and I was very taken with her voice, so I downloaded a couple of her songs as well. I recommend them.

Denis and I watched “The Rocker” last night. It was better than I was expecting. I was happy to see Teddy Geiger in the movie – I love his album (yes, I still call them albums) from a few years ago and was happy to see someone else hire him for not only his singing but his acting. The soundtrack was great – lots of original songs that TG sang. Very tempted to log in to iTunes and download a couple of them.

Am listening to “Dragonfly in Amber” right now, which is the third book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. It’s a good series and I’m enjoying it. In recent weeks if I got to work a few minutes early I’d sit in my car and continue listening – I’m enjoying it that much. I had never heard of the series before until a lady at book club recommended it, so I gave it a shot. It hasn’t disappointed.

I can’t believe I’ll be working full-time again starting Monday. In a strange way I’m dreading it (I’ve come to enjoy working in the mornings and then having a couple hours to myself before the kids get home from school), but I’m also looking forward to it (I think the job will be fun, and the people are very nice). It’s a HUGE place to work though – and I wonder how easy it will be to make friends. The place I’m going to work isn’t a typical office atmosphere at all. I can’t go into it because I’m deliberating being coy about where I’ll be working, but suffice to say that I’m hoping that it will be easy to get to know people.

The weather around here has gotten cold – well, in the low 50s. *lol* The house is cold in the mornings, but I refuse to turn on the heat until I truly can’t stand the cold. Since we’re not going to be home during the days, there’s no reason to run the heat until the evening, and I’d rather just use blankets for a while before giving in and ended up with a big gas bills.

So back in January I started another website and it has gone okay, but I’m thinking about ending it or passing it on to someone else. It’s not that it’s a lot of work, but there’s just not a lot going on and so the site isn’t as active as it could be. I do get some search traffic, so I don’t want to can it altogether, but I may put out feelers to see if someone wants to take over the site and take of off my hands. If not, I’ll go ahead and let the domain expire in January.

Newish TV shows I’m continuing to love: Community (Joel McHale is awesome), Vampire Diaries, and (new to me) Torchwood (which I’ve been renting on Netflix). I haven’t been talking about the new season of So You Think You Can Dance much, but it’s not because I’m not enjoying it – I have been. I’m sad that Billy Bell wasn’t able to stay in the Top 20 but look forward to having him there next season. As for the rest, there’s no one person that I think of as a favorite, but I do like Jacob very much.

Anything else? Hmm…no, I don’t think so. Later!
